Garlic sauce

  • 500 g diced chicken breast or chicken thighs
  • 2 tablespoons of soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 2 tablespoons of soy sauce manis
  • 2 cloves of garlic (finely chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 tablespoon sambal (optional for a little spice)
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • Wooden or metal skewers (wooden skewers must soak in water for 30 minutes beforehand)
  • Oliehoorn garlic sauce
  • Optional: fresh parsley or chives for garnish

    In a large bowl, combine the soy sauce, honey, soy sauce manis, minced garlic, cumin powder, coriander powder, sambal and olive oil.

    Add the cubed chicken and stir well so that the chicken is completely covered with the marinade.

    Cover and let marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes (longer will do, for even more flavor).

    Thread the marinated chicken cubes onto the skewers. Make sure the pieces are not too close together so they can cook evenly.

    Heat a grill pan, barbecue or use the oven with the grill setting.

    Grill the chicken satay for about 10-12 minutes, turning them over halfway through. Make sure the chicken is well cooked, but not dried out. You can also grill them in the oven at 200°C for 15-20 minutes, until the chicken is golden brown and cooked.

    Serve the grilled chicken satay on a plate and drizzle the Oliehoorn garlic sauce over it. Add the rest of the garlic sauce for dipping.

    Garnish with some additional fresh herbs, such as parsley or chives, if desired.
